Every School Day Counts: Our Commitment to Attendance
At Grange Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the very best start in life. Regular school attendance is the key that unlocks their potential, not just academically, but socially and emotionally too. Being in school every day helps children build friendships, develop routines, and access the rich and exciting curriculum we offer. Our goal is to work in partnership with you to ensure your child has the best attendance possible.
Our whole-school attendance target for this year is 96%.
The Impact of Attendance
Even a few days missed can have a significant impact on your child's learning. See below what attendance percentages really mean in terms of lost learning time.
-
95% Attendance = Half a day of learning missed every two weeks.
-
90% Attendance = A full day of learning missed every two weeks (this equates to four whole weeks of missed lessons over a school year).
-
85% Attendance = One and a half days of learning missed every two weeks.
Celebrating Great Attendance!
We love to celebrate the effort our pupils and families make to be in school every day!
Whole-Class Rewards: We know that teamwork makes the dream work! At the end of every half-term, the class with the best overall attendance will be rewarded with a fantastic pizza and popcorn party to enjoy together.
Indivdual Rewards: At the end of each school year, children with 100% attendance will be awarded with a gold attendance medal. Children with attendance above our school target of 96% will receive an awesome punctuality certificate.Reporting Your Child's Absence
If your child is too unwell to attend school, you must inform us on the first day of their absence.
We use the Studybugs app for absence reporting. It's the quickest and easiest way to let us know your child won't be in. Please report your child's absence via the app before 8:55am

If you are unable to use the app, please call the school office on 01772792573.
Support for Our Families
We understand that getting your child to school every day can sometimes be a challenge, and we are here to help. We believe in working with families, not against them.
Our fantastic Pastoral Manager, Mrs Sutton, is here to provide support and guidance. Mrs Sutton can help with listening to any concerns, offering advice on routines, and connecting you with other support services. Please don't hesitate to contact her via the school office.
Further School Support: To help your child have the best possible start to the day, we also offer:
-
Breakfast Club: A safe and welcoming place for children before school starts.
-
Reduced-Price School Dinners: Providing a nutritious hot meal to fuel their learning. Please contact the school office for more information on either of these.
Our Approach to Improving Attendance
Please note that our school will respond to poor attendance with a range of strategies, from celebrating excellent attendance, through to in-school support. We will also use the Local Authority support mechanisms, including penalty notices where absolutely necessary.
-
Punctuality: Every Minute Matters Being on time is just as important as being in school. School starts at 08:55. When a child arrives late, they can miss important introductions to lessons and feel unsettled.
-
Medical Appointments: Please try to make medical and dental appointments outside of school hours where possible.
-
Holidays in Term Time: In line with government policy, holidays taken during term time cannot be authorised. Unauthorised absences may result in a penalty notice being issued by the local authority.
