EYFS Curriculum Overview & Long Term Plan 2025
Provision
Autumn 1
This half term we will be focusing on the topic ‘All about me’. The children will get to explore their new classroom, make friends, learn classroom routines and of course play and explore in all our provision areas with their new friends. We will also be reading the traditional tale ‘The Little Red Hen’ for our first class text and learning about the season of Autumn. We are looking forward to going on nature walks, baking bread, making pumpkin soup and visiting a pumpkin patch. This is going to be a busy but very exciting first half term for the children!
Class Information
PE
In Elm, our PE lessons are on Wednesday and Friday.
On PE days, children should come to school in their normal uniform and bring their PE kit in a separate, named bag. They will get changed at school, which helps them to practise their independence.
Our PE Kit is:
-
A plain red t-shirt
-
Black shorts or black joggers
-
Black pumps or trainers
Important Reminders:
-
No Brands: Please ensure all items of the PE kit are plain and do not have large logos or branding.
-
Jewellery: For safety, children with pierced ears must have them covered with tape or plasters before they come to school on PE days. Staff are not able to do this for them.
-
Labelling: Please make sure every item of kit, and the PE bag itself, is clearly named.
Thank you for your help in making sure our PE lessons are safe and fun for everyone.
Forest Fridays
Every Friday is Forest School day in EYFS!
We're so excited to be pulling on our wellies and waterproofs to take our learning outdoors. Rain or shine, we will head out to explore the wonders of nature, learning to be resilient, curious, and creative in our beautiful outdoor spaces.
From searching for minibeasts and building brilliant dens to creating muddy masterpieces and listening to the sounds of the woods, our Forest School sessions are all about hands-on learning, teamwork, and having lots of fun.
A quick reminder: To make sure your little explorer is ready for their adventure, please send them to school every Friday with a named pair of wellies and an all-in-one waterproof suit that they can wear over their uniform.
Reading in Elm Class
Our Home Reading Partnership
As we begin our reading journey in Reception, we want to share something crucial: you are your child's first and most important teacher. The single biggest thing you can do to support their success at school and unlock their potential is to share a book with them at home.
Children who read regularly at home develop a richer vocabulary, a better understanding of the world, and a confidence that flows into every area of their learning. Just 5-10 minutes a day makes a world of difference.
How to Make it Work: Each week, your child will bring home a reading book and a reading record. Our request is simple: find a quiet moment to share this book together.
In the Reading Record: We know you are busy, so we want this to be quick and easy. Just write the date and the page number you read to. That’s all. It shows us that you’ve had that special time together.
Discussion points/questions you could ask
- How is the character feeling?
- What happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story?
- What was your favourite part of the story?
- What word means the same as..?
- Can you tell me one fact about...?
Your support with this is not just 'a bit of help'; it is the foundation of your child's future learning. Let's work together to give them the best possible start.
Tapestry
In Reception, we use a fantastic online learning journal called Tapestry to bring you closer to your child's day at school.
Tapestry is a secure platform where we share photos, videos, and notes of all the wonderful things your child is learning and achieving. It’s a special way for you to see their "wow" moments, from building a brilliant model to writing their name for the first time!
We love it when you share your own news and photos from home too, as it helps us build a complete picture of your child's development. We can't wait to start sharing this exciting journey with you!
