Rowan Class (Year 3)

Welcome to Rowan Class:

2023 - 2024

Year 3

Mrs England and Mrs Catterall

Here you will find the Long-Term Plan for Year 3 for 2023-24.

This gives a broad overview of the themes and topics covered in year and relate back to the National Curriculum.

For more details about each subject being taught -  click on the Curriculum page within the Parents Section.

PE

Our PE days are Monday and Tuesday.

Please send your child to school in their school PE kit: red round-neck t-shirt and plain black shorts or joggers.  Children should also wear their school sweatshirt.

Black pumps are also useful or unbranded black trainers.

From ASDA you can get 2 t-shirts, 2 pairs of shorts and pumps for under £9.

Children should not be wearing branded clothing.

Please do not send your child in clothes which are not school uniform.

Please also ensure that children with pierced ears can either remove earrings themselves or cover with plasters before the start of the school day.

Home Reading

  • Minimum 3x per week with written acknowledgement from children in Reading Records.
  • Children will be asked to share their knowledge, understanding and excitement about their book with adults and peers so please keep on top of reading at home.
  • A written acknowledgement should look like this:

Page 81 - 99 . If I were the character I would have attacked the evil prince instead of running away like James did because it made James look weak and might make the evil prince more likely to attack him.

Page 81 - 99. What I learned from this part of the text is that shark have two sets of teeth. They can have up to 15 rows of teeth! That would take a lot of brushing.

Spellings

Weekly spellings will be given out on a Monday with a test on the following Friday.  Please help your child to practise their spellings at home.  They will also be given time in school to practise them too.

Maths.

In Maths, we will be continuing with our scheme Maths No Problem and will be concentrating on Place Value, Addition and Subtraction in the first half of the Autumn term.

In English we will use Talk for Writing to learn new texts which will enhance our writing.  We will be writing about Parrots for Sale in our non-fiction unit and Eggs in our Fiction unit.  We will also be continuing our learning in Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, building on our Year 2 skills.

Class novel

Art - we are in the process of creating our own River Indus, in the style of our chosen artist Alisa Lariushkina. Watch this space for the finished product!

Some examples of Alisa's work.

We had an amazing day at the Atkinson Museum in Southport when we visited to enhance our knowledge on Ancient Egypt.  They even had a mummy!
