We have been very lucky to be able to take ownership of a new minibus thanks to generous donations.

We intend to use this to ensure our children get out and about to trips and sports competitions.  Moving forward we would also want parents to be able to accompany us on trips.

  • Plastic Free School Award

    Wed 21 Jun 2023 B Mashiter

In Eco Committee, we have been working hard towards achieving our Plastic Free Schools Status. We have linked this to our Rights Respecting School award, whereby our children are entitled to a clean environment as noted in Article 24.

We have organised our own litter pick, challenged the main plastic polluters by writing letters to them, and we have even written to parliament resulting in a response from Sir Lindsay Hoyle! He was very happy to hear that we have been trying to keep Lancashire clean and has urged us to continue our hard work.

As a committee, we then had to decide how we were going to reduce our plastic use in school. We have decided to

    • Reduce laminating and trial not backing books in plastic
    • Introduce a recycling bin in the hall for yogurt pots and single-use plastic items in packed lunches.
    • Reduce single-use plastic across the school as needed. For example, the eco committee chose to use biodegradable plant pots when giving out sunflower seeds.

We are extremely proud of achieving our award, and we are ready to take the next steps in highlighting the need to reduce single-use plastic. We will shortly be holding a Plastic Free School Day- keep your eyes peeled in the newsletter!

    School Meals

Governors have asked me to let parents know that we intend to continue offering school lunches for a cost of £1 per meal, maximum of £10 per week per family to support those families who pay for school meals. This also includes free snack at breaktimes for all pupils.

We received very positive feedback from parents who tell us this really helps so are happy to be able to continue. We will review it again at the end of the school year - in July 2023.

  • Advice re Scarlet Fever and Strep A

    Thu 08 Dec 2022 C Taylor

Please find attached  advice about the current outbreak of scarlet fever and associated Strep A illness from the UK Health Security Agency.

    Scarlet Fever:

If you think you, or your child, might have scarlet fever:

    ·         contact your GP or NHS 111 as soon as possible

    ·         make sure that you or your child take(s) the full course of any antibiotics prescribed. Although you or your child will feel better soon after starting the course of antibiotics, you must complete the course to ensure that you do not carry the bacteria in your throat after you have recovered

    ·         stay at home, away from nursery, school or work for at least 24 hours after starting the antibiotic treatment, to avoid spreading the infection

    For suspected Strep A infection:

Contact NHS 111 or your GP if:

    ·         your child is getting worse

    ·         your child is feeding or eating much less than normal

    ·         your child has had a dry nappy for 12 hours or more or shows other signs of dehydration

    ·         your baby is under 3 months and has a temperature of 38C, or is older than 3 months and has a temperature of 39C or higher

    ·         your baby feels hotter than usual when you touch their back or chest, or feels sweaty

    ·         your child is very tired or irritable

Call 999 or go to A&E if:

    ·         your child is having difficulty breathing – you may notice grunting noises or their tummy sucking under their ribs

    ·         there are pauses when your child breathes

    ·         your child’s skin, tongue or lips are blue

    ·         your child is floppy and will not wake up or stay awake
